When she was 15 years old, a small lump appeared on Gnilane’s face. Thinking it would one day go away, she didn’t let it dim her passion for getting an education — or her hope for the future. She finished secondary school and went on to high school as the lump continued to grow. Soon she felt forced to give up her studies.
“That decision was so difficult,” Gnilane said. The dream she had of finishing her education and achieving a successful future now felt faraway. As the years passed, she eventually found work as a hairdresser and got married. Her husband knew of his wife’s dreams and the obstacles that stood in her way of achieving them, but with a lack of affordable healthcare, he worried they would never find the healing she needed.
s10全球总决赛竞猜Despite their frustrations, Gnilane refused to be discouraged. “I told myself that maybe God just hadn’t scheduled my healing yet,” she said.
A short while later that the couple received news that the Africa Mercy would be arriving in Dakar. Gnilane registered to be screened, and once approved for surgery, she traveled to the ship.

With the painful tumor she’d lived with for 10 years finally gone, Gnilane’s passion for her future returned. “I am looking forward to returning to school and restarting my studies — it’s the only thing I want,” she told us. “I have a lot of dreams, including of being a doctor, thanks to Mercy Ships!”
